In Meridian, local firefighters were honored once more, for their acts of valor.
This year in January, Meridian firefighters were honored by The Mississippi Fire Chiefs Association, The Mississippi Firefighter Association and The Mississippi Fire Academy for two life-saving incidents that occurred in April and August of 2019.
The January awards ceremony was held in Jackson --and Meridian’s fire chief and the deputy fire chief believed there needed to be another ceremony, done locally.
“It was something that needed to be done in the local community to recognize those folks that for the most part would tell you ‘this is just what I do’, there’s nothing special about it, which I disagree, in both incidents they went above and beyond the call of duty and made a difference in their community”, Ricky Leister, Chief of Meridian Fire Department.

Life Saving Commendation: Captain Justin Kentfield, Firefighter James Gentry, and Firefighter Evan Pickens
