Today in Lauderdale County, the state treasures office had representatives in the Lauderdale County Annex building to help people find their unclaimed property.
Unclaimed property is unclaimed assets like checks, stocks and bonds that have been turned over by business associations, utility companies, and banks.
The event took place from 2pm to 6 pm in the Lauderdale County Supervisor Board Room, where many people stood in line to see if they had any unclaimed assets.
“I want to see if I have any unclaimed property or any unclaimed money”, said Bertha Plummer, Lauderdale County resident.
“I came down here and it was real quick, fast, and easy and I found out my grandmother had property and I had some property too, that was unclaimed”, said Willie Hurde, Lauderdale County resident.
“Just come out and see if your name’s on the list ain’t no problem, you know what I’m saying, it’s a lot of people down here, though”, said Plummer.
According to the Mississippi State Treasurer, there is more than $5 million of unclaimed assets in Lauderdale County.
