Local law enforcement honored by The Meridian Exchange Club

Giving honor where honor is due: officers with Meridian Police, Lauderdale County and Mississippi Highway Patrol were recognized for their outstanding service.

“There is no I in team. It’s a department where we all work together, and our mission is to get the job done and make sure everybody goes home safe,” said SGT Derrick Williams, officer of the year.

This is why it is important to give awards such as sheriff’s deputy of the Year, highway patrol officer of the year ,and police officer of the year ;to show officers they are appreciated

“I’m very thankful for the award. I couldn’t have done any of it without the people that work with me,” said  Lt. Karey Williams, Deputy of the year

Year round, officers patrol daily and put their lives on the line to serve and protect.

“Different type of situations, you never know what type of situation is going to be. We try to perform our duties to our best of our knowledge and our training,” said Scott Coggins, Mississippi State Trooper, Officer of the year.

Organizers with The Meridian Exchange Club have been presenting awards like these for years.

“We’ve been doing the law enforcement for the law officer in Lauderdale County, Meridian Police Department and Highway patrol for well over 40 years,” said Dennis Harper, Exchange Club Member.
