In Meridian, 3rd and 4th grade students at TJ Harris Upper Elementary had the chance to learn through an interactive lesson from a teaching artist.
This class demonstration was sponsored by the any given child initiative, which has been implemented in the Meridian Public-School District to teach children their curriculum through integration of the arts.
“They will learn how to problem solve, because they’ll have the beginning of the story and play as characters and then we’ll come back, ask them a question, ‘what do you think we can do to resolve the problem?”, said Jerry Jenkins, teaching artist.
“It was a great experience. It was the first time some of them had actually dealt with a teaching artist in the classroom, some of them remembered him from their previous school at Crestwood, so it was very interactive, and they loved it”, said Natasha Palmer, 3rd grade teacher.
Each elementary and middle school in the Meridian Public-School District will have a teaching artist visit their classes before the end of the school year.
