Fire officials in Lauderdale County are investigating the cause of a building fire on Newton County Martin Road.
Firefighters were called about a fire at the old Martin store around 7 pm Monday night.
Officials say it took about an hour to put out.
No one was injured.
The Bailey and Collinsville fire stations assisted in putting out the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The County Fire Service, The Sheriff’s Department and The State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of this fire.
“It is still smoking and it’s probably going to do this for a few more days, it was a very intense fire, it was a big building about six thousand square feet. It was a lot of things that were able to burn, you know, all of the woods, constructions, it’s an older building, built—we think in the 1920’s, best we can tell as far as what’s started it, we’re not certain, we have some ideas”, said Fire Chief Jeremy Pogue of the Martin Community Fire Station.
The building served as many things over the years in the community including a school, a store, and a meeting place for domino players.
