NAS Meridian Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. With A Commemorative Service

The MLK day celebrations continued today in Meridian.

This time, at the Meridian Naval Air Station,  which held a commemorative service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.


The guest speaker was Lenray Gandy.



He is a Meridian native who was involved in the civil rights movement as a child


 Gandy met multiple civil rights activists --Including James Chaney, Medgar Evers, And Dr. King.


 “I lived on the site of the Meridian race riot of 1871 and that section was just the black business district, but I’m so glad to see Meridian evolving into a integrated city and that’s what our fight was really about in the old days, we didn’t want more, we just want the same as anyone else”, said Lenray Gandy, guest speaker.


The service included historical pictures and articles from the civil rights movement and many included Gandy.
