The father of the civil rights movement was on the hearts and minds of people across the country and right here in East Mississippi today.
High schools, community members, and local businesses marched down Main Street in Philadelphia today to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.
Some residents say attending the parade each year is a tradition because they enjoy seeing the community focus on peace and unity.
“I love Dr. King, I was a part of his march here in Philadelphia, MS in the 60’s. This is a day that we all should celebrate. Not black, not white, but all nationalities. I had a fantastic time,” said Patricia Cole, resident.
The parade was at 11 this morning and wrapped up around noon.
