The Lauderdale County School District is getting tech savvy when it comes to mentoring students.
Southeast Elementary School is partnering with Alders Gate Retirement Community to allow senior citizens to help encourage students to succeed.
Once a week students and residents will video chat using the Google Meet platform.
Certain students will be selected to participate in this opportunity.
“We just decided what better way than to bridge the assisted living and the school setting than to use technology to meet weekly and to have the mentors speak to our students,” said Brent Pouncey, special education teacher.
Students will give a surprise in-person visit to Alders Gate at a later date.
