The sheriff’s department is beefing up its staff by hiring 17 new deputies. They’re also patrolling around the clock to start.
Seventeen officers have been hired this month.
Residents of Newton County are pleased with knowing their law-enforcement is keeping an even closer eye on the community.
“I have three small children that attend school here and also live here. We need a patrol 24 hours a day. Crime doesn’t sleep and it’s great to see that happening in our county,” said Jody Chaney, resident.
Officials say that response times are even faster and works out better for the community.
