Great Turnout For "First Day Hike" at Clarkco State Park

2020 is getting off to a healthy start around the country  and right here in East Mississippi.

People flocked to Clarkco State Park in Clarke County for the annual first day hike.

Twin States news spoke to some who enjoyed their first hike of the year.

“It’s our very first time, we thought we would come out, it’s a pretty day, so we thought we would come out and wear the kids out a little bit”, said Shelley Whitehead.

“It’s a great time to come out, start the year out right, start it outside”, said Whitehead.

“It’s pet friendly out here, she had a great time, we walked around the lake and some of the trails and she really enjoyed being out”, said Louann Lamar.

According to American Hiking Society, last year throughout the United States almost 28,000 people rang in the new year hiking more than 60,000 miles collectively.
