Today, while many families choose to “Deck The Halls” from home, some seek an alternative to cooking a big holiday meal.
There are very few restaurants open on Christmas day, but there is one restaurant, that both locals and travelers enjoy adding to their holiday tradition.
The parking lot of the IHOP on North Frontage Road was packed with many customers enjoying a holiday meal.
IHOP Employee Michael Lynch says that he expected business to be booming today.
“It’s Christmas, I’m thinking we’re one of the only places open today, so of course we’re busy, we’re open, everybody’s doing great, everybody’s in a festive mood so, I’m trying to give everybody what they want, what they ask for”, said Michael Lynch, IHOP employee.
For one Meridian family, eating out was a spur of the moment decision.
“I don’t know what made us come, but it’s just the Christmas spirit you know, came here to celebrate with half of my family, I wish the rest of them came”, said Kaiden Carlisle.
And for some travelers passing through this was a planned stop on their trip home.
“This is kind of our midpoint to Houston and we spent Christmas eve with our family in Knoxville, so now we’ve got to get back home”, said, Karla Morales, Traveler.
Karla Morales also shares that it was a convenient way for her daughter and her to celebrate the holiday.
“Definitely helps, because sometimes you don’t expect to be travelling on Christmas day, so, when you see the décor and the waiters with the Christmas hat’s it’s really enjoyable”, said Morales.
One customer recommends eating out on Christmas for a new family tradition
“Come on out and enjoy it, you ain’t got to worry about cleaning up when you’re done”, said Charles Hanshew
Welcoming the holiday rush of customers, the IHOP is open 24/7 Christmas day.
