Today, Christmas carols and holiday cheer welcomed Mississippi visitors and travelers passing through Toomsuba.
The Mississippi Welcome Center in Toomsuba kicks off the Christmas season with the help of the Toomsuba Head Start Center.
This was the second annual Christmas tree trimming held by the welcome center. The Christmas program included the hanging of ornaments crafted by the kids of the Toomsuba Head Start Center and performances.
“The welcome center program is in part a two-part program. Its part Mississippi development authority and Mississippi department of transportation, but as far as the travel council, it’s our job to promote tourism within the state of Mississippi and we do it in any form or fashion that we can, the Christmas tree and the artwork of the kids, being a way to promote arts in Mississippi”, said Sandra Chambers, supervisor of the Toomsuba Mississippi Welcome Center.
Although the Christmas program was to showcase Mississippi’s welcoming holiday spirit, it was to also to encourage and support the youth of Toomsuba.
“ It is a combination of Christmas or the festive spirits to the Mississippi welcome center, but it’s also in part showing off the creativity and I guess the artsy skills of our children, so its kind of a two-fold thing. I’m just a firm believer that, you know, if you start kids off when they’re young, give them a lot of support, then hopefully that will grow into something that they will carry with them”, said Chambers
During the Christmas holiday, more than one thousand visitors pass through the Mississippi Welcome Center.
