Does Stress From The Holidays Have You Feeling Blue?

December 6, 2019

It can be called a “Blue Christmas” not because of the holiday decorations, but because of the winter blues.

The winter season is known for the joy it brings during the holidays, but for some the stress associated with it can bring on what’s known as “The Winter Blues”.

This is a mild form of Seasonal Affective Disorder which is a type of depression that comes and goes with the seasons.

The winter blues can be caused by the stress of holiday shopping, hosting family, and holiday planning.

“A lot of people contribute that to buying and being in a big rush to get a certain gift or a certain item that they enjoy, so I think in most cases they should plan a schedule and make that time”, said Meridian resident Roland O’Neal.

Meridian resident Roland O’Neal shares how he copes with stress during the busy holiday season.

“I do a lot of drawing and painting and that helps relieve stress, usually when I have free time, that’s what I do. Its real comfortable and relaxing”, said O’Neal.

“If you’re stressed out by the holidays, just relax, take it easy, find you a good book to read, on a nice couch”, said O’Neal.

According to the American Psychology Association if symptoms of the “Winter Blues” interfere with your ability to interact with those around you during the winter months, you should speak with your doctor.
