Pedestrian Killed Trying To Cross Interstate

A fatal accident yesterday evening on the interstate ends with one person dead.

The accident was said to have occurred around 7:19 Thursday evening

On interstate twenty a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing late Thursday night, the victim was found dead upon arrival.

The victim was seen crossing the interstate headed toward one of the businesses in the area.

“A pedestrian was crossing the interstate from what we’ve gathered so far.  Believe it, trying to go to Walmart.  She crossed the westbound lanes then whenever she came into the eastbound lanes she was hit “, said John Griffith, Operations Captain of Meridian Police Department.

Captain Griffith tells twin states why you should not cross the interstate by foot.

“The reason you should not cross the interstate is because pedestrian traffic does not belong on the interstate, it’s not expected to be on the interstate.  That’s not a safe crossing place.  No place on the interstate is a safe crossing place”, said Captain Griffith.

The help of witnesses is expected to help this investigation move smoothly.

“We had several people that were on the scene that had seen it or come up shortly thereafter. So, we did have several witnesses.  We did have to do some investigative work to figure out exactly what happened”, said Griffith.

According to Captain Griffith of Meridian Police Department the case investigation is ongoing.
