A Lauderdale County homeowner turns the tables on a would-be robbing crew.
Three burglary suspects targeted the wrong neighborhood this past weekend.
The crime spree started when a homeowner saw the trio near his car on Hill View Drive Saturday night.
. At the time he thought they were attempting to steal his vehicle. Those three individuals ran off when they realized he was there.”
The night of crime did not end after the suspects ran away.
“When the deputy arrived, he was talking with the complainant, he heard gunshots in the short distance”, Ward Calhoun
Those gunshots turned out to be from a shootout with the three suspects and a homeowner on Ponta Hills Drive.
”Some evidence was recovered from the initial incident, the initial theft of firearms out of the first vehicle, so investigators are working some angles on that, some information, some leads that we’ve gotten, and hopefully we’ll be able to make some arrests”, said Calhoun.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department is urging everyone in the community to be extra careful – since there’s usually an uptick in crime during the holidays.
“I would encourage people not to leave weapons inside of vehicles, not to leave anything of value in your vehicle. Even at your home, and I know that sounds like, well it’s my house, it’s my property. But the problem is we have these individuals who go to homes typically neighborhood, but not always, in this case, it’s down the county road, and they are looking for things to steal”, Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.
The three suspects remain on the run.
