High end designer purses were on the auction block as The United Way of East Mississippi held its annual power of the purse fundraiser.
It gives money to The Dolly Parton Imagination Library which strives to put books in the hands of children before they head off to school.
Among the 4-hundred women doling out dollars Mississippi First Lady Deborah Bryant.
“It’s a great program and it has to be sustainable and for that to happen you to have raise the money to keep it going,” Bryant said.
Bryant’s wife was blessed with a gift that many children will enjoy.
“We’ve gifted her with 82 books that will represent the 82 counties in Mississippi,” said Kimberly Shirley, Power of The Purse co. chair.
Organizers with United Way say this is one of many important fundraisers put on by the non-profit organization.
“Dolly Parton Imagination Library which is the education pillar of The United Way. It’s the only fundraiser that provides books to area children from zero to five years of age,” Shirley said.
