Parkview Elementary students participate in National STEAM Day

November 8, 2019

In honor of National STEAM Day, third-grade students at Parkview Elementary participated in many science projects.

“We’re super excited about it, they are engaged, and we owe all of that to our STEM teacher Mrs. Cassandra Smith. She keeps our students engaged by providing those activities to help our students integrate the science technology, engineering, and math,” said Natasha Mosley, Parkview Assistant principal.

The STEAM curriculum at the school provides students with hands-on learning opportunities.

“Some of the many activities that they work on throughout the week are some of the machines where they’re working with pullies and cranes. She provides them opportunities to work with digital citizenship activities where they do a lot of coding and work with various robots and such.” Mosley said.

The school also incorporated dancing and arts to tie into STEAM activities.

“We have integrated dance with science as well. Movement is a scientific body movement and how that applies to them, keeping their bodies fit by doing dance and enjoying rhythm,” said Katie Mullen, Parkview Arts teacher.
