JACKSON, MISS.— The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) recently joined Nextdoor, the private social network for local neighborhoods.
Through Nextdoor for Public Agencies, members of MDOT’s Public Affairs team will post the latest Mississippi highways information, including traffic advisories, project updates, emergency info and more. Unlike other social media platforms, Nextdoor will allow MDOT to post county-by-county, giving the agency the ability to target posts locally. Mississippians can sign up to use the free service by visiting Nextdoor.com.
“We are excited to join Nextdoor’s program for public agencies,” said Melinda McGrath, P.E., MDOT Executive Director, “This is another tool for the agency to get out important roadway information to Mississippians.”
All Nextdoor users living in Mississippi will automatically get MDOT messages. Users will also have the option to opt-out. The Nextdoor neighborhood network remains private, and MDOT representatives will not be able to see what neighbors are discussing on non-MDOT posts.
Mississippians can continue to get roadway information by downloading the MDOT Traffic app in the App Store or Google Play Store, visiting MDOTtraffic.com and by following @MississippiDOT on Facebook and Twitter.
