It took a Kemper County jury just 15 minutes to convict a man of raping a relative who is a vulnerable adult.
More than a year after his arrest in February 2018, Andrew McGraw has been convicted by a Kemper County circuit court trial jury. Andrew McGraw is heading to prison for 35 years.
It took the trial jury just minutes to convict him of the unthinkable.
“We received information from the University of Mississippi medical center in Jackson, that a vulnerable adult, who was unable to speak or communicate, was found to be pregnant", said by Michael Mattox, case investigator of Kemper County Sheriff's Department.
DNA evidence was presented to the jury. investigators say despite the overwhelming evidence – the case was not a slam dunk for prosecutors.
“It was difficult in the manner of the victim speaking, because of her condition and her inability to assist in the investigation. She can’t communicate, she can’t write, or speak and tell you what happened, so the DNA had to be used as a voice for her, because she cannot speak or communicate", said Investigator Mattox.
The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant Attorney General Stanley Alexander and Special Assistant Attorney General Dana Sims.
