Halloween Safety Tips from Lauderdale Country Sheriff's Department

October 29, 2019

With Halloween two days away, here are some tips and tricks on how you and your children can ensure your safety this Halloween.

“You want to make sure that if it’s a dark costume that maybe on the back of it,  or even on somewhere on the front you put something that would be seen by somebody driving a car, by headlights.”

“To having children get out of your car, it always best to not cross the street, if you’re in your car, always have children get out on the passengers side, that way their not in the street, open and closing doors, getting in and out of cars is always a dangerous time", said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.

With most of the Halloween activities, such as "trick or treating", occurring in the evening, it is important that you and your family have a safe method when participating in Halloween.  The rural areas in Lauderdale county, you’ll want to be safe when you go out that evening.

“You as an adult before your children start to consume any of this candy that you go through that candy, that you look and make sure that its wrapped and wrapped properly, sealed, whatever it is in that particular event, that it hasn’t been in some way, someone’s done something to it and that’s the kind of thing and of course trick or treating at the homes of neighbors and family members.  People who you know, of course lessens the likelihood of something like that happening”, said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.
