Be Prepared Before The Peak of Flu Season

With the peak of flu season coming up, you’ll want to be prepared and here’s how you can stay ready.

"The flu vaccine is the most important thing that you can do, besides proper hand washing to prevent getting the flu and spreading the flu" said by Dr. Hunter Harrison of Rush Family Medical Clinic.

The Mississippi State Department of Health’s Public Laboratory has confirmed the first case of seasonal flu. The flu has been detected and treated, but this the first case confirmed by the state public health lab through its state flu surveillance.

Dr. Harrison says, "By protecting those other loved ones, that may have other chronic conditions, even young healthy individuals, we really encourage to get their flu shots."

Flu activity peaks between December and February, but activity can last as late as May.

"It is for anyone ages 1 and greater, we also have a  stronger dose for those over 65 as well", said Dr. Harrison
