Sumter County School District is on track to improving its academic performance

October 22, 2019

Sumter County superintendent Dr. Anthony Gardner is pleased with the academic progress the school district has made.

“Last year we galvanize the teaching staff and support staff. We all came together to do what we knew was right for our kids. Everybody worked hard. Our children work hard, our teachers worked hard, our support staff worked hard,” said Dr. Anthony Gardner, Sumter County Superintendent.

Dr. Gardner says the letter grade for the district went up and major improvements were also discovered when receiving the results.

“I have three schools that have improved a letter grade. My high school improved nine points from a 61 to a 70 to a C. Our graduation rate increased by six percent from 77 to 83. Our college and career rate almost improved by six percent,” said Dr. Anthony Gardner, Sumter County Superintendent.

Gardner adds how this accomplishment comes from having team work in the district.

“The achievement during our first year of the program is phenomenal. It’s a result of our children buy in into the program and doing everything they can do to be successful. It’s also a result of our teachers,” said Dr. Anthony Gardner, Sumter County Superintendent.
