Quitman Public School District participates in Annual One District, One Book, One Community

October 9, 2019

“Last year we read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Seven Habits of Highly Affected Kids and this year we chose to read “The Butterfly Effect” which is a great spin-off that book. It’s still talking about students being empowered, people being empowered to make a difference in what you do matters,” said Shevonda Truman, curriculum director.

Truman says by having everyone in the community involved in reading it will set the example for students to do the same.

“In order for our kids to be all that they’re going to be, they have to be good readers. We want to model that. We want them to know the importance of that and so reading together and doing this brings that awareness and lets them know that we’re not just asking you to read but we’re going to be reading with you,” Truman said.

Truman says this is not the only way the community shows its support.

“They are promoting wearing t-shirts, they also have banners that showcase the book. They have yard signs that showcase the books. All of the activities that we’re doing is centered around this book,” Truman said.
