Homeschooled student attends Meridian Community College

August 19, 2019

“I just got here today, so for the first time I’ve been walking around this campus, it’s not too hard to find the buildings and I’m just trying to find my rooms,” said Will McCarty.

Unlike lots of college students on this campus today, Will McCarty didn't attend a traditional high school.

“Now it’s the first time I’m in the classroom, first time I’m on campus, so you know; I was kind of worried it would be kind of hard but it’s really not that bad,” said MCcarty.

McCarty is not alone and has guidance from students on campus.

“Push through it’s not like high school, it’s not like the day before type study thing, stay consistence, be disciplined,” said Alaysia Hedgemon, MCC sophomore.

“Reaching out to your teachers on campus, reaching out to your teachers on campus, reaching out to your classmates on Instagram, all the things, don’t wait until the last minute. Have ever done like two days before it’s done, and you’ll be a, ok,” said Sydney Benton, MCC junior.

MCC President Doctor Tom  Huebner even says college survival is made up of self-discipline.

“It’s about waking up in the morning and getting to class and asking the right questions and studying your materials and being engaged in the details,” Huebner said.
