Mississippi Power delivers school supplies to Lauderdale County schools

July 24, 2019

The staff of Northeast Elementary School is already off to a great start for the upcoming school year.

“We think it’s going to be a fabulous semester, we’ve had a lot of teachers already working,” said Lisa Shelley, Northeast Elementary principal.

But there are some students at the elementary school that doesn’t have the needed school supplies.

“We’ve had situations where someone may and: there could be a whole multitude of reasons behind why that maybe, but for whatever reason; they show up and they may not have a backpack, or they may not have certain supplies,” said Lisa Shelley, Northeast Elementary principal.

School items can often be costly for parents having to go out and purchase school supplies, but thanks to United Way for having Stuff The Bus school drive and also for Mississippi Power coming and delivering the items here; a difference will be made this school semester.

“They get a day together where we can volunteer our mornings to distribute school supplies to all your local and city schools. Everything from school uniforms, to colored pencils, I mean it was everything binders to notebooks anything you can think of,” said Duncan Brown MS Power mechanic.

Administrators are relieved students will have the tools needed to learn.

“We’re going to be sure that they are put to use and our goal is for students to have the supplies that they need to start the school year with and so this is fantastic to help with that,” said Lisa Shelley, Northeast Elementary principal.
