Two dead after Amtrack collides with car

July 22, 2019

Two people are dead after a car collided with an Amtrak train just off Hwy 11 South.  It happened around 1 p.m. this afternoon. The car was traveling over the tracks to get back on Hwy 11, and the train was heading north into Meridian. According to Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie, the train pushed the car nearly a half a mile down the track before being able to stop.

“We tell people all the time, when you're approaching a train track, stop and look both ways twice before crossing the track,” said Sollie. The names of the victims have not been released at this time.  No one was injured on the train. We will release more information as we receive it.
