A member from the Medical Marijuana 2020 campaign was the guest speaker at the latest Rotary Club meeting at Northwood Country Club. Members with the campaign are traveling across the state providing educational research conducted in other parts of the country where the program is legal. The initiative looks to put medical marijuana on the 2020 campaign ballot for the state of Mississippi.
It would strictly be used for patients with debilitating medical conditions. The campaign needs just over 86,000 signatures to get it on the ballot, and they currently have around two-thirds of the signatures needed. "Well, it's really just an amazing plant. It has over 100 different cannabinoids that can work together or be extracted out depending on what the patient's specific debilitating condition is and what symptoms they're trying to find relief from,” said Jamie Grantham, who is with the campaign. The deadline to place the item on the ballot is September 6th. Thirty-four states within the U.S. have already legalized the program.
