Meridian Public School District prepares to train for "Leader in Me"

The Meridian Public-School District Board met last night and agreed that all schools should participate in Stephen Covey's “The Leader in Me”. A whole school initiative that empowers students.

“The Quitman School District just down below us is also in their first year of implementation of The Leader In Me, Starkville is also proceeding down this journey, they’re a little bit ahead of us but as we have said: we have to go slow to go fast.” Said Kelli Speed, director of federal programs.

Soon to come, teachers and administrators will learn the ropes of leadership and life skills by participating in the training.

“Our K through eighth schools will be participating in training to become more knowledgeable about the seven habits; how to apply it to their own lives; we feel like these skills are habits that we will eternalize our sales prior to us starting to share that with our students in the fall.” Said Kelli Speed, director of federal programs.

The idea came from a business visit and administrators felt this initiative would leave a lasting impression on students to want to become leaders.

“We had leadership go up to Harvard last summer and we began understanding that a lot of the things that we’re seeing or the struggles that we’re seeing in the classroom comes back to the kids who need to understand that they need to drive their learning.” Said Kelli Speed, director of federal programs.
