At the latest work session, Public Works Director Hugh Smith went over their plans as paving is set to begin within the city next week. The city currently has just over $300,000 left in bonds for paving, but Smith says more money is needed. They will be working with the $300,000 to finish out paving projects for the rest of the year, but he told the council they need about one million dollars put aside for paving within the budget each year.
This year they did not have the funds to hire temporary workers, therefore, their two paving crews have been combined into one, which consists of eight workers. Smith gave the council a list of roads they believe should take priority first when it comes to paving. Residential streets are not a priority at this point and time, but main roads where the most traffic is present.
