Since re-opening over a decade ago, the MSU Riley Center has had a major impact on the city of Meridian, and it will now be under new leadership. Now that MSU Riley Center Executive Director Dennis Sankovich has announced his retirement, a new man will be filling his position. “You know, the venue itself was beautiful, and I think the size of the community was also a factor for us. Right here in south Florida, there’s five million people, and I think it’s more rewarding to serve a community where the whole community is really what you’re involved with, rather than just a fraction,” said Dr. Dan Barnard. He is currently the director of Bailey Hall at Broward College in Florida. He says there are many other factors that attracted him to the Riley Center. “Well, I like that it’s an economic driver for the whole community. I’m excited to work in that environment, and I just love the sense of history when you walk in there,” said Dr. Barnard. “The people were incredibly warm and inviting. I didn’t meet anybody that didn’t smile at me. It just seems like a great place to come to.” He will start on June 1st.
