Russell Christian Academy students participate in spiritual emphasis week.

January 25, 2019

As a part of their spiritual emphasis week, students at Russell Christian Academy spent time today giving back to the less fortunate.

“These are all of our hygiene kits we’re packaging for the homeless people. We have physical needs that they need, and once we meet their physical needs, we’ll definitely meet their spiritual needs.”

Students put together kits as they thought about what would be most useful for homeless individuals.

“We have like some toothpaste, soap, snacks, beef jerky, toothpaste, toothbrush packs for toothbrushes, and many other things that they need for themselves, so they can keep themselves healthy and alive.”

The school is not alone and has partnered with Asalane’s Mission, a non-profit that assists homeless individuals in need.

“From what I understand, there is a lot of homeless in this area and there is definitely a need.”

This is not the first time the school has done something to benefit those less fortunate.

“We really want to put our feet to our faith, we’ve worked with Love’s Kitchen, other outreaches such as that. There’s a place in Rome, Georgia where they were collecting toy items, and clothing items for the less fortunate around Christmas.”

Holifield says he hopes this initiative will encourage students to give back to those in need.

“The students are so excited about being able to do something for somebody, not just sitting and listening and just being a hearer of the truth, but they actually want to be active and be doers, so they’re looking for opportunities themselves to just make an impact."
