Coming up Friday, January 18, at the Frank Cochran Center is an event that will have local celebrities’ feet moving.
“Not only can they go out and see local community people dancing and having fun, but they can also have a good meal, they can socialize with their friends. They can have a whole table of their friends and enjoy a night, and it’s just a fun event,” said Leslie Payne who is the Executive Director of Meridian’s Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter.”
Dancing For A Cause is a dance competition that was started by Elegance Ballroom & Dance Studio owner, Leslie Lee. She came to the shelter several years ago looking to give back. Payne said real life doesn’t stop for their clients once they enter the shelter, so events like this truly help them out. Though the shelter receives grants, they don’t always cover important, personal needs of clients.
“Things like insurance. Kids still need glasses and braces. Clients still need gas for their cars or they may need batteries. They may need special clothes, they need medication, and things like that. A fundraiser like what Leslie does for Care Lodge—that’s why its so important for us,” said Payne.
Over the years, around fifteen to twenty thousand dollars has been raised for Care Lodge through this event. Tickets can be purchased through Leslie Lee. They are $50 each and will include a meal. Tables can also be purchased and seat eight people. Email Lee at firstname.lastname@example.org to purchase a ticket.
