The City of Meridian has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, and it's the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story is something the judging panel looks for.
"It’s a good thing for Meridian because anyone from anywhere can pick it up and look at the book, and it’s the same information whether you're in Meridian, Mississippi or New York, New York. You can look and see how our finances compare to theirs,” says Chief Financial Officer and City Clerk Brandye Latimer.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a professional association servicing the needs of nearly 19,000 appointed and elected officials.
