Local pastors hold conference to encourage voting

November 21, 2018

With the senate run-off race happening next Tuesday, local pastors are coming together at a special location to encourage everyone to get out and vote. On the property where the Meridian Baptist Seminary stood before a fire destroyed the old building in 2007, these pastors along with Councilwoman Kim Houston and Councilman Weston Lindemann, speak about the importance of voting. With the Baptist Seminary being one the first freedom schools in the state of Mississippi, Rev. Gary Houston says voting today shows that those who have given their lives for people to be able to vote, are not forgotten.

"Because so many gave their lives, so many worked, we don't want that opportunity to go by the way-side. That's why we are out here today, black and white, ministers, concerned citizens of meridian, to encourage our folks to get out on November 27th and exercise their right to vote." -Rev. Houston

Transportation will be provided between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on election day for those who need to go vote. To get transportation, call 601-490-2709.

There will also be a Vote Rally this Sunday at 3 p.m. at James Chaney Park.
