MAEX announces new exhibit and activities.

August 29, 2018

This fall, several new events are expected to premiere at the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience.

Last Saturday was the second hall of fame induction ceremony, which brought a lot of attention nationwide, but in the upcoming weeks, there are more activities and exhibits to be put on display one including Mississippi writer Ray Morris.

“ With his exhibit coming September 15th, which is Love Daddy, Letters For My Father and it’s all letters and pictures all about Willie Morris, the writer who he was as a writer and as a father and as a person, so it will be a very exciting changing exhibit that will last from September until December.”

According to Tiffany McGehee it’s not just exhibits that will be on display at the MAEX but a variety of hands-on training courses that will last for weeks.

'We’re starting next week with all of our MAEX studio courses that’s courses in ceramics; we’re here right now in the ceramic studio. Handbuilding and wheel throwing, we’ve got watercolor classes, acting classes, hip-hop dance and Youth Acting class which is free.”

Museum educator Tiffany McGehee says the classes are a bargain at 20 dollars.

“ The MAEX studio classes are eight-week-long courses, it’s once a week, and the fee covers the entire course, it’s not like a repetitive fee.”

McGehee also says with a variety of activities to pick from she hopes participants will find them entertaining.

“We want to always offer something at all times, so we ’ll definitely keep up the classes and the blues series performances, the brown bag lunch series performances. There’s just something for everybody at the MAEX.”
