United Way's Stuff the Bus makes its way to Kemper County

July 20, 2018

In DeKalb today, United Way of East Mississippi’s Stuff The Bus parked their school bus outside their local grocery store. Stuff The Bus is a program put on by United Way for school supplies, gently used or new uniforms, and monetary donations to be given for children in grades 1st through 6th who are in need of these things in local communities. Those in the community of DeKalb came out to volunteer and help United Way.

Kemper county has an unemployment rate of eight percent, so according to Loretta Hulin of United Way, the need in the county is very great, but donations were a major success.

"It's important because it's people helping people. That's what we do. We're a close-knit family. There's only 10,000 of us in the county, and pretty much everybody knows everybody. So, when someone's in need, everybody just tries to pitch in and help. That's just the way we do it in Kemper. -Loretta Hulin, board member: United Way of East Mississippi

If you would like to further donate to Kemper county's Stuff The Bus, either donate to the United Way or go by the economic center in Kemper.
