The first city council meeting of the month took place earlier this morning, and the police chief spoke before the council. Meridian Police Department Chief Benny Dubose spoke to the council about Mississippi State University applying for a grant that deals in law enforcement robotics. This grant would allow the university to work with the MPD in several scenarios while using robotics and while recording these interactions so they can be studied. One example of a scenario that could be studied would be a bomb threat and using a camera to investigate a bomb threat. Chief Dubose also spoke before the council in the last meeting on a support letter that MSU has put out for working with law enforcement on decision making, as well. The council approved an order authorizing a letter of support to the university for studying law enforcement robotics.
