Dr. Seuss Day

March 2, 2018

You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose! Dr. Seuss is famous for his words such as these, and through his books he opened a new world for all to see.

“I think Dr. Suess was so influential in children’s book because he was different. He was unique. He wasn’t like everybody else, and why be like everyone else when you were born to stand out? And he did stand out.” -Angela Reed, 1st grade teacher, Southeast Elementary

Today schools all across the country celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day. Personnel from Key Field Air National Guard Base came out to read to Southeast Lauderdale Elementary students.

As part of Read Across America Day, every day of the week leading up to the actual day has a theme, and today is, “get cozy with a good book”, which is why all of the students are wearing their pajamas.

“Kids can read about anything. They can go anywhere. They can be anyone when they read. I think it just opens up a whole new world of possibilities for them through reading because they can go to Antarctica, they can go to Whooville, they can go anywhere they want to go.” -Mrs. Reed
