Historic House Burned Down

Tuesday evening, a fire destroyed the Mitts family home on historic Hilltop in Enterprise, Mississippi.

The fire happed around 9:30 pm as the beautiful historic home burned to the ground.  The home, which dates back to the pre-civil war era, has been on the National Register of Historic places since 1980.  The Victorian three-story home called ‘Hilltop’ had been in the Mitts family for five generations.

The homeowner was out of town when the fire started, but unfortunately all of the pets in the home died. At this time there is no word on why the fire began.

Officials with Enterprise, Stonewall and Quitman Fire Departments responded to the scene as well as the Clarke County Sheriff's Department, and Clarke County Emergency Management Agency.
