Forum to discuss human trafficking in the area

Human trafficking is a growing problem nationwide that’s even affecting right here at home.  Parents for Public Schools and Community Youth Events are inviting parents, students, and those who work with youth to an information session this Saturday to learn more about the issue.  The groups say those who attend will learn how to identify human trafficking victims and how to protect those who may be vulnerable to the practice.

“As we continue our approach to this, we found out that more of the kids that are runaways are the ones that are being targeted for such activities.  It’s actually happening local, so we wanted to spotlight that and get more information out to the public,” said Sinnessa Wilburn, founder of Community Youth Events.

The event will include speakers from the attorney general’s office, Free International, Care Lodge, and the Meridian Fire Department.  It’s from to noon and will be at St. Paul Episcopal Church.
