Meridian Athletic Club 9/11 Stair Climb

September 12, 2017

Yesterday evening the Meridian Athletic club hosted, the 911 stair climb.  For those who lost their lives in the tragic twin towers incident.

Katie Bergin the owner of the Meridian Athletic Club says, ” We just realized there is not an actual event for 911, so we really wanted to honor those who have fallen and of course, honor our local heroes.  So, we just wanted to do something crazy and do something fun in our community.”

Participants of the 9/11 stair climb will go up and down these stairs a total of 18 times.    Which is the equivalent of 110 stories or the height of the World Trade Center.

“And there is a competitive side and a noncompetitive side, and you can do it at your own pace.  And 100% of the proceeds go towards our first responders right here in the Meridian area.

She says, everyone from the community was invited to take part in the inaugural event.

“We’ve got some great city officials.  Our local fire departments, police departments, sheriff departments, you name it, we got it.  We’ve got a lot of support from local businesses and it’s a really quick turn around this year and so we are excited about next year.”

But she is excited that this year, they met their competitive goal.

“Our goal this year was to have at least 50 participants and we’ve well exceeded that.  As far as financial, I have no idea but I can’t wait till next year.”

As she has plans to raise more charitable funds, for Meridian first responders and their families, in times of need.

“So, it should be an annual event each year on 911, and we hope to grow it to a bigger and better event this year.”
