NAS Meridian names new commanding officer

December 17, 2016

A change of command ceremony took place yesterday at NAS Meridian.  Commanding Officer Pavao Huldisch stepped down to take on a new mission.

“I’m heading up to Bremerton, Washington.  After finishing my command tour here of VT-7, I’ve been screened to be the air boss the USS John C. Stennis, which is dear to Mississippi,” said Huldisch.

Huldisch has served as the commanding officer of Training Squadron Seven since September 2015.  Looking back, Huldisch said he’s proud of what his students have accomplished.

“I had my students coming from barely being able to recognize what a jet looks like, and now they’re able to land an aircraft carrier and do all this awesome stuff with the aircraft.”

Squadron Seven, also known as the “Eagles,” welcomed Jason Gustin as their new commanding officer.

“I’m very proud, very humble, very excited.  It’s been a great experience so far as the XO.  I’m really looking forward to my time as the commanding officer,” said Gustin.

Gustin earned his “Wings of Gold” from NAS Meridian and served as the XO under Huldisch’s leadership.  He has big plans for his future students.

“So far we’ve had a really good record up to this point.  I want to just continue to train the world’s best aviators and get students out of here safely.  Get wings on their chest and out to the fleet,” said Gustin.

Huldisch gave Gustin advice in assuming his new position.

“I would tell him to be himself.  He’s been a great XO and has a great head on his shoulders.  He’s going to do a phenomenal job to continue to keep VT-7 at the top of all squadrons here.”
