After 11 months of construction, the new gymnasium and wellness center at the Lamar School is now complete. During today’s ribbon cutting ceremony, community members got the first look inside.
“We are all excited about having this on campus. It’s right here in the heart of our campus. All of our students have been a part of it,” said Principal Leigh Ann Ballou.
The facility got the approval of parents…
“The gym is just beautiful. It’s air conditioned. I think it’s everything that this school will need for many years to come,” said Wade Sims.
“I’m almost speechless. It’s state-of-the-art and first class. The only way the Lamar Raiders do it,” said Nicole Ward.
“I’m ready to shoot and practice and bring home another state championship,” said Ambreah Waters, a 10th grader.
This is the school’s first athletic building since 1971. Funded by the school’s invest, inspire, and impact campaign, the gymnasium and wellness center cost $2.3 million.
“Not only does it have our basketball facilities, but it also has a ladies workout area as well as some extra classrooms,” said Wade Sims, a past board president.
With the space to seat 850 guests at one time, Ballou said the school has big plans for the facility.
“We want all of our students to feel like it belongs to them and know that this is their gymnasium and their facility to learn and grow in.”
