Mississippi Blood Services has partnered with Anderson Regional Health System to meet the local needs for blood. Yesterday, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held in the hospital’s courtyard.
“This was just an opportunity for us to expand and to continue to service Mississippi and the residents here in the state,” said JW Chapman, the marketing director at MBS.
As Anderson’s new blood provider, MBS will provide all blood used at the hospital.
“Transfusion needs are of utmost importance to the hospital. We go through about 67 hundred units of blood a month, so that is one of our primary concerns,” said Marcus Willis, Anderson’s lab director.
“We’ll be setting up blood drives here in Meridian. We’ve got one today at Anderson’s and one next week on the 10th at Bonita Lakes Wal Mart from 12 – 6 ,” said Chapman.
He encouraged everyone to come and donate.
“There’s always a demand for blood, especially as we enter the holidays. More people are going to be traveling, more focused on Christmas and family. But the need for blood is not going to decrease. We’re still going to have accidents. We’re still going to have unplanned surgeries that require blood. We need as many Mississippians as we can during the holiday season to roll up their sleeves and donate blood, so they can make a difference and save a life.”
