Giving through adversity

September 12, 2016

Good Monday morning all.

There was a lot of good and a lot of bad this past Friday.

We lost one of our first responders in an accident, but we also told a story about giving back to first responders. We didn't plan this of course, but it certainly puts a lot into focus. A man gave his life while responding to another's need for help. We need respect these individuals. We need to give back; we need to serve those who serve us. We need to do it now before it's too late.

Also, I would like to introduce you to 21-year-old Christie Roberts. Someone to be emulated.

I shot these interviews on Friday to turn around the same day for Friday's broadcast, and let me tell you; this is one of those soul-crushing moments as a journalist where I have to take so much beauty and beat it down to two minutes of screen time.

What you don't pick up during the interview is Christie's sense of humor, and the joy she has as you spend time with her. Despite dealing with cerebral palsy, Christie lives louder and harder than most.

Meet one of my new heroes. Spend two minutes with her, and I'm sure you'll love her too.
