This Saturday, the very first Meridian Day festival will take place on the front lawn of City Hall.
There’s going to be entertainment for everyone.
“We will have a boxing exhibition, a jujitsu exhibition. There will be bouncies and free pony rides for kids between three and five. We have three bands scheduled. We’ll also be giving away a flag design acoustic guitar,” said Yolanda Edmonds, who planned the event.
Kia of Meridian is also sponsoring a car give-away. There will be craft vendors, food, and a special performance by the Dancing Divas of Meridian.
“We are looking forward to watching those young kids and young adults doing something positive,” said Edmonds.
She came up with the festival idea 16 years ago.
“There’s Coffeeville Alabama Day. There’s Spring Hill Day. We need a Meridian Day to bring everybody together, and I thought it would be nice to get the whole community together as one.”
She added that attending the festival will be a great way to spend the Labor Day holiday.
“It doesn’t matter if you have relatives in from out-of-town that weekend, or if you’re just sitting around the house doing nothing. I want you to come out and enjoy the first annual Meridian Day because it takes all of us to make this event a huge success, and it’s free for the community, so why not?”
The festival will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
