A recent graduate of Clarkdale High School is preparing for her first year of college, and one thing she won’t have to worry about too much is tuition. The Citizens Bank presented Lexie Rawson with a $1,000 scholarship thanks to their program in which seniors in Meridian and Lauderdale county can enter for every A they make in school. Not only does the winner of the drawing receive the scholarship, they also receive $500 for their high school. Rawson will be attending Mississippi State in the fall where she’ll major in secondary math education.
“I want them to feel like it’s a safe place. A lot of people don’t like school and math in general, so, just for them to enjoy the subject and for me to hopefully bring it across clearly so they can understand it better is what I hope for,” said Rawson. She’s also a part of the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching program where she signed to teach in a state public school for five years. Through this program, her entire college career will be paid for.
